How To Access the IMEI Number of the GSM Modem

The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) Number can be accessed on the ENVIROMUX-GSM or ENVIROMUX-GSM-P GSM Modem through the included software. This number is required in order to obtain a SIM card from a GSM Provider. The SIM card is required to use the GSM Modem to send SMS text messages to a pager or cell phone when a sensor goes out of range of a configurable threshold.

  1. Connect the GSM Modem to a computer with a free COM port for RS232 communication to the modem.
  2. Run the software installation CD included with the GSM Modem on the computer.
  3. Complete the language selection, license agreement, and installation destination sections of the software installation wizard as directed.
  4. The Connection Parameters section of the software installation configures the GSM modem to be used as an internet device for use with computers. Since the GSM modem will later be configured by the ENVIROMUX-SEMS-16 or ENVIROMUX-MINI for sending SMS text messages only, these fields should be left as is.

  5. Once the software installation is complete, open the Modem Control Tool software program.
  6. The Modem Control Tool software should detect that there is no SIM card inside of the GSM modem, and will result in an error message. If the error message does not appear, the computer is unable to establish RS232 communication with the GSM Modem. Click "OK" to proceed.
